Red cabbage is a luxury, I said to my husband. And so is heat. We are lucky to have both this winter for the first time in decades. The oil man just arrived while I was chopping a green and a red cabbage. We were down to 1/8 of a tank. My(snow day) husband was outside chatting with the oil man.
Let's have a tropical-themed dinner party in the 12 degree weather. We can have your brothers over and tell them wear Hawaiian shirts.
Let's not.
We both hate theme parties. But I am dying to have a poetry supper.
I'll have to do it in a sneaky way.
I was looking at the 5 pounds of white potatoes thinking that this is mashed potato weather but I am not a butter gal. So chopped the taters up and dumped them in the pressure cooker with vinegar mustard salt olive oil and dash of sugar. Recipe (Presto Pressure Cooker German potato salad) came with my cooker in 1979) I steamed the potatoes for four minutes.
While that was cooking I chopped red and green cabbages, red bell peppers, red onion, carrots, celery, and made coleslaw dressing with mayo buttermilk mustard and the usual suspects--rooster sauce and Adobo. My first coleslaw recipe was from Marion Cuningham's Supper Book (best book ever along with her famous Breakfast Book).
Now I have 2 buckets of coleslaw and potato salad. And HOT FLASHES. I stood in the yard 12" of snow wearing my flip flops and sleeveless mini dress. It's 12 degrees out.
