One must ask questions because in asking questions of ourselves, we are exposing ourselves to ourselves. And you may not want to do that in public because we are rather vain – ‘I don’t want to show my stupidity, so I will let somebody else ask the questions.’ To ask the right question is extraordinarily difficult because to ask the right question, I must have gone into this very profoundly. When you ask the right question, you have answered it yourself. And that is the beauty of asking a question, so that you expose your own mind and heart to yourself. But generally, one is frightened to expose oneself to oneself. And if you are frightened, don’t ask the question. Krishnamurti, From Public Talk 2, Saanen, 20 July 1969
