Room in the World

When I was a kid I was always fascinated by Grand Central Station. I loved watching all the people and spotting so many amazing faces from all over the world. Seeing humanity in all its fullness gave me unspoken permission to be who I am. Anything was possible!! But I also saw it as proof that maybe there was no room in the world for me.

How can one ever stop being fascinated by Grand Central Station? No matter what time I arrive, or how few minutes remain till I must reach an appointment, I stand in the center of the main concourse and let the world flow past me. I am always seized by the feeling that I will see someone I know, a face from the past, a former co-worker, an old love ... but I never have. Not yet anyway. I am bound to keep looking there in Grand Central.
